Volunteer transcriptions of monumental inscriptions and burial registers, indexed by cemetery. The transcribers mark uncertain figures with a question mark; a queried age or year is a warning not to rely on it.

Ezzy | Eliza | 2 Jan 1874 | 6 Feb 1874 | 5w | dau/William James & Mary Ann (Mayo); b. 'Rose Hill' Farm, Spring Grove NSW, Australia | Millthorpe NSW
Monumental inscription for the couple's infant daughter Eliza (#21781), who lived five weeks in 1874. It names both parents, and gives their farm as 'Rose Hill' at Spring Grove - the household this family was living in when the youngest children were born, ten years before the father died there. Columns in the site's own order: Family Name, Given Names, Birth, Death, Age, Details, Cemetery.
IN MEMORY OF / WALTER JOHN 1860 - 1872 / ADA 1862 - 1880 / THEOPHILUS 1865 - 1865 / HERBERT JAMES 1866 - 1866 / KATE 1867 - 1886 / ELIZA 1874 - 1874 / CHILDREN OF WILLIAM JAMES AND MARY ANN EZZY / ALSO THEIR DAUGHTER REBECCA JANE SAMS / WIFE OF GEORGE SAMS DIED 1919, AGED 64 YEARS.
Read from the photograph of the children's plaque on the Ezzy family memorial at Millthorpe (media 298). Quality 2 as a descendants' memorial. Names seven children of family 6641, matching Walter John #21773, Ada #21780, Theophilus #21784, Herbert James #21783, Kate #21779, Eliza #21781 and Rebecca Jane #21771 as the tree records them.
A second, independent witness to the Lamb-Chambers parent link in family #6643, alongside the BDA index row already cited there. This one gives the mother as Elizabeth Caroline (Chambers), with the middle name and the s on Chambers that BDA's "Elizabeth CHAMBER" lacks.
Ezzy | William | 1765 | 23 Apr 1830 | 65 | son/William & Mary (Golding); b. Beenham, Berkshire, England; h/Jane (Floyd) & Jane (Mills) | Windsor Anglican Church NSW
The evidence for filling this family's empty wife slot and for calling the union a marriage: "h/" in this index means husband of, and the row names two successive wives, Jane (Floyd) and Jane (Mills). No marriage date or place is recorded here, because none was found.
Ezzey | John | 29 Oct 1795 | 29 May 1869 | 73 | son/William & Jane (Floyd); b. Richmond, New South Wales, Australia; h/Rebecca (Lamb) | Richmond Anglican NSW | Family Vault, Row 2, 41/42 SecA
The son-side evidence for family #6645, the link from John Ezzey to his father William #21812, which the GEDCOM import carried with no source. The family already holds citation 49634 β the same index's row for William, which names his two wives, Jane (Floyd) and Jane (Mills). This row names the same couple as read off the son's monument, which is what makes the two independent of each other.
Other Information
married 26 Dec 1883 Waterloo NSW
Mary Ann Ezzy's own headstone/index entry. BDM Marriage Reg is 3182/1884 (registration year), but this field gives the actual wedding day as 26 Dec 1883.
Charles (Cole) | Sarah Ann | 1 Jan 1816 | 10 Jul 1882 | 66 | dau/John & Rhoda (Herbert); b. Lutterworth Leicestershire, England; w/Thomas | Goulburn Old NSW
Evidence for the child link Sarah Anne Cole #21750 -> John Cole #21829 + Rhoda Herbert #21830: the index names her parents as John and Rhoda (Herbert), which is that couple, and gives her birthplace as Lutterworth, Leicestershire.
Charles | Thomas | 14 May 1816 | 7 Aug 1898 | 82 | son/John & Martha (Freeman); b. Normanton on Soar Nottinghamshire, England; h/Sarah (Cole) | Goulburn Old NSW | Pbn Old 482
The evidence for the child link Thomas Charles #21749 -> John Charles #66787 + Martha Forman #66788. It names the parents as John and Martha (Freeman) and the birthplace as Normanton on Soar, which is where that couple married on 6 Apr 1800 and baptised Sarah 1801, John 1802, Samuel 1804 and Joseph 1806. It does not name them beyond their given names, so it is consistent with the recorded link rather than proof of it; no baptism for Thomas has been found in any register.

Other Information
marr at suburb of St Peters, Sydney ;
Stephen's own headstone names his wife Ruby May (nee Pearson), NSW Marriage Reg 3302/1912, married at St Peters, Sydney. #21821 previously had no spouse/family in the tree; Ruby May Pearson created as scaffolding to hold this marriage. Children 'Henry C' and 'Lillian G.' also named but not independently verified this pass - not added, reported separately.
name: "Percival Augustus Ezzy", spouse: "Elsie Florence (Jones)", extra.detail: "son/Henry & Mary Ann (Slater); b. St Peters NSW, Australia; h/Elsie Florence (Jones)"
Percy/Percival Augustus Ezzy's own index entry names his wife as Elsie Florence (nee Jones) - 'h/Elsie Florence (Jones)'. #21824 previously had no spouse/family at all, and no person named Elsie Florence Jones exists elsewhere in the tree (checked via search_people). Created as scaffolding to hold this marriage; no marriage date/place given.
name: "Florrie Ann Froud (Exxy)", spouse: "Augustus Kingsworth", extra.detail: "dau/Henry & Mary A (Slater); b. St Peters NSW, Australia; w/Augustus Kingsworth"
Florrie's own index entry, filed under her married surname Froud, names her husband as Augustus Kingsworth - 'w/Augustus Kingsworth'. #21819 previously had no spouse/family at all in the tree; Augustus Kingsworth Froud created as scaffolding to hold this marriage. No marriage date/place given.
Spouse Given Names: Charles Edward / BDM Marriage Reg: C358/1909
Field values quoted in the austcem inscription page's own column order. Independent corroboration of the QLD BDM marriage citation above: identical registration number, recorded on Mary Jane's own austcem index entry.
Beatrice V Stiller (Bradford) | GRAVE | 8 Aug 1997 | 89 | Narromine NSW | James L L
Her row, cells in the index's own column order: Name, Event, Date, Age, Place, Spouse. The bracketed Bradford is the index's convention for a maiden name and the Spouse cell names him, as his row names her; they are buried in the same cemetery. Her 1997 death falls after the index's 4 September 1996 cut-off so no registration can be cited, and the ABT 1908 birth is derived from the age 89 rather than recorded. The marriage is also independently attested by their son's 1926 birth registration naming JAMES L L and BEATRICE V. Retrieved 2026-09-05.
William John Nelson | GRAVE | 14 Jul 1947 | 92 | Nambucca Heads NSW | Robert | Elizabeth (Debenham) | Harriet Rebecca (Barber)
The mother's maiden name Debenham comes only from this monument transcription; the obituary gives 'Robert Nelson, Jnr., and his wife Elizabeth, arrived in Australia from England in 1852'. No marriage record sought.
Wenzel Grenenger | GRAVE | 12 Nov 1911 | 78 | Enfield Anglican NSW | son/John & Sophia; h/Harriet Mary Grimwood (Finch) & Jane Sarah (Finch)
Australian Cemeteries Index row for Wenzel Grenenger, quoted in the site's column order (name, event, date, age, cemetery) followed by its own relationship line. The parents' given names in an Australian index of this kind come from the NSW death registration, which carries a father's and a mother's given name and no surnames.
Grenenger (Finch) | Harriet Mary Grimwood | 1845 | 26 Jun 1879 | 34 | dau/Samuel & Susannah (Wordley); b. England; w/Wenzel | Enfield Anglican NSW | 7, 17-19 || Grenenger (Finch) | Jane Sarah | 1855 | 19 Jul 1933 | 79 | dau/Samuel & Susannah (Wordley); b. Sydney NSW, Australia; w/Wenzel | Enfield Anglican NSW | 7, 17-19 || Beadman (Finch) | Theresa Ada | 1862 | 30 Jul 1948 | 86 | dau/Samuel & Susannah (Wordley); b. Braidwood NSW, Australia; w/James | Drayton and Toowoomba QLD | Pbn 4 4, 2
The three Australian Cemeteries Index rows returned by a search on family name FINCH with father Samuel and mother Susannah, quoted in the site's column order and separated by ||. They are this couple's three daughters and they track the family from England in 1845 to Sydney in 1855 and Braidwood by 1862, which the NSW birth index confirms. Two of them, Harriet Mary and Jane Sarah, married the same man, Wenzel Grenenger, and lie in this couple's plot at Enfield. Theresa Ada is proposed in the companion sibling-set proposal.
dau/John & Catherine; b. Whipstead, Suffolk, England; w/Robert
The detail field of Elizabeth Nelson's Australian Cemeteries Index entry, agreeing with the baptism the compiled profile quotes. Her NSW death certificate (per the same profile) instead named her mother Elizabeth and called her father 'Captain in Imperial Army'; the informant was her son, and the baptism and the monument agree on Catherine.
dau/John Abel & Charlotte Emma (Davis); b. Sydney,NSW; w/Joseph Rambler
The detail field of Charlotte Emma Barber's Australian Cemeteries Index entry, which supplies the father's second name Abel and the mother's maiden name Davis.
Father Given Names: Thomas | Father Birth Name: Dodkins | Mother Given Names: Fanny Elizabeth
The relationship block of the same Enfield Anglican inscription, corroborating the death registration independently of it and supplying the father's surname Dodkins. No mother's maiden name is recorded, so she is created with given names only.
Spouse Given Names James | Spouse Birth/Maiden Name | Spouse ID 8071708 | BDM Marriage Reg 1970/1881
Theresa Ada's record page names her husband and the NSW marriage registration 1970/1881; his page carries the identical registration number pointing back at her. That number is the whole basis for dating this marriage to 1881 and for setting the union type to married β the family row had no date and no type before. The registration itself has not been read; a NSW BDM lookup of 1970/1881 would confirm the district and the exact date.
Finch | Susannah | 1820? | 15 May 1864 | 44 | dau/Abram & Sarah; w/Samuel | Braidwood Old General NSW | Ang I, 48
Australian Cemeteries Index result row in the site's column order. 'dau/Abram & Sarah' is the second, independent naming of this couple; the passenger list spells the father Abraham.
Children Given Names | Levi; Margaret A; James Robert (ID 7781937); Dinah Emma (ID 7782539); Ann M; Lucy E; Margaret E; Charlotte E; Sivyer Henry (ID 8855294)
The children field of the Australian Cemeteries Index detail page for John Field, quoted as it stands. Four of the nine are created in this proposal - James Robert, Dinah Emma, Ann M (Ann Matilda, inscription 7781452) and Sivyer Henry - because each has an inscription of their own giving dates, a birthplace and registration numbers. FIVE ARE DELIBERATELY NOT CREATED: Levi, Margaret A, Lucy E, Margaret E and Charlotte E are names on this list and nothing more - no date, no place, no registration - and a person built from a bare name in a compiled list is a person nobody can ever verify. The query that would give them is the NSW birth index for FIELD with father JOHN and mother MARGARET A or MARGARET ANN, roughly 1848-1875, in the Penrith, Maitland and Manning River districts. Mercy Esther Field, who died of burns on Oxley Island in August 1865, is a tenth child and is not on this list at all.
Hartigan (Foggon) | Margaret Ann | 1886 | 8 Apr 1944 | 57 | dau/Charles & Margaret Ann; b. Berrima, NSW, Australia; w/Thomas Edward | Katoomba NSW
Australian Cemeteries Index search row for Margaret Ann, quoted in the results table's column order; the same row is already cited on her (citation 53435). She is his first wife, and she is the 'Mrs. T. Hartigan, of Katoomba' at whose house her father died in 1931. No marriage registration has been looked up - the NSW index would hold it. Her inscription page 16049397 also answered 'Server Overloaded' today.
Hartigan (Foggon) | Eliza May | 1894 | 19 Aug 1972 | 78 | dau/Charles & Margaret Ann; w/Thomas Edward | Pinegrove Memorial Park NSW
Australian Cemeteries Index search row for Eliza May, quoted in the results table's column order. Thomas Edward Hartigan's own row names him husband of 'Margaret Ann (Foggon) & Eliza May (Foggon)', so this is his second marriage, after Margaret Ann died on 8 April 1944 and before his own death on 18 February 1949 - a five-year window. No marriage registration has been looked up.
Kathleen Irene Grenenger (Wyatt) | GRAVE | 5 Aug 1924 | 24 | Coffs Harbour Historic NSW | w/Wenzel Samuel
unionType 'married' rests on this row naming him as her husband and on all three children's NSW birth registrations naming WENZEL S and KATHLEEN I as their parents. NO MARRIAGE REGISTRATION IS FOUND: the NSW groom-side GRENENGER sweep 1855-1975 holds his SECOND marriage, 13336/1925 to Jessie Burt, but not a first. An earlier round of this pass recorded a lead that they married at Newport, Wales in 1919; that is uncited and no startDate is set here.
Frederick Saville | GRAVE | 14 May 1965 | 85 | Lansdowne NSW | | | Emily Ada
Emily Ada Saville (Avery) | GRAVE | 1 Feb 1945 | 63 | Lansdowne NSW | | | Frederick
The two inscriptions name each other as spouse, and four children buried in the same cemetery name Frederick and Emily Ada as their parents. No marriage record has been read - the New South Wales index is browser-only - so unionType is 'married' on the strength of the inscriptions but the family carries no marriage date.
Gordon Charles Saville | GRAVE | 17 Jul 1973 | 65 | Lansdowne NSW | Frederick | Emily Ada | Christabelle Beatrice
Christabelle Beatrice Saville (Minett) | GRAVE | 24 Apr 2004 | 94 | Lansdowne NSW | Christopher | Caroline E | Gordon Charles
Each inscription names the other as spouse. No marriage record has been read; the New South Wales marriage index publishes only to 1976 and is browser-only, so their marriage should be findable and is a standing request.
Edwin Charles Saville | GRAVE | 11 Oct 1958 | 87 | Lansdowne NSW | | | Margaret Emily & Fanny (Richards)
Margaret Emily Saville (Crassingham) | GRAVE | 19 Oct 1932 | 57 | Lansdowne NSW | | | Edwin Charles
His inscription names two wives in order, Margaret Emily and Fanny (Richards); hers names him. This family is the first marriage. No marriage record has been read - the NSW index is browser-only - so no date is set.
Edwin Charles Saville | GRAVE | 11 Oct 1958 | 87 | Lansdowne NSW | | | Margaret Emily & Fanny (Richards)
Edwin Charles's second marriage, named on his own inscription after Margaret Emily, who died in 1932. Fanny is created with a maiden surname and nothing else: the stone gives her no dates, and she is not buried under this entry. The NSW marriage index would date the marriage and the death index would give her dates.
Lydia Amelia Connors (Saville) | GRAVE | 29 Mar 1944 | 77 | Lansdowne NSW | | | Michael Joseph
The Australian Cemeteries Index row in the index's column order: name, event type, date, age, cemetery, father, mother, spouse. Lydia Amelia is Benjamin and Amelia's fourth child, registered 9847/1866 at Manning River; her stone gives her married surname Connors and names Michael Joseph as her husband. He is created with no dates - nothing else about him has been read - and no marriage record has been found, the NSW index being browser-only.
James Ernest Grenenger | GRAVE | 24 Jul 1953 | 70? | Woronora Memorial Park NSW | son/James Ernest & Elizabeth (Brown); h/Mary
The row that ties this household together: it names his parents, which is how #83103 was identified as James Ernest jr, and it names his wife Mary. unionType 'married' rests on it and on eight children's birth registrations naming JAMES J or JAMES and MARY at Carcoar; NO marriage registration is found β the NSW groom-side GRENENGER sweep 1855-1975 has no James Ernest marriage after his father's in 1861. The '70?' is the transcriber's query on a worn figure; his 1864 birth registration makes him 89.
