Independently names UDIMORE as his birthplace - the parish of his baptism and of the 1838 bounty list's 'Native of Udermore, Sussex' - and gives a full birth date three days before the baptism of 29 July 1810 recorded in the Udimore register (media 399). WikiTree Field-3651 transcribes the James Pattison entitlement certificate as 'Age: 28 in 26 July 1838', which is the same day and is where this date almost certainly comes from: a bounty list stating an emigrant's age as at a dated birthday. The same list's birthday field has already been proved right for his wife, recorded as '23 last birthday 27 December 1837' and baptised at Brede on 12 January 1815, sixteen days after 27 December 1814.

There is no stone: this is a compiled entry built from the registrations, so quality 2, not 3. A CONFLICT WORTH KEEPING: it gives his father as STEPHEN and his mother as MARY A. His Udimore baptism of 29 July 1810 (register image, media 399) reads 'John Son of John & Mary Field', and the 1838 James Pattison bounty list gives 'Father John Field | Mother Mary Field'. Two records made in his own lifetime, twenty-eight years apart, agree on John; a colonial death registration taken from an informant in 1887 is the weakest of the three. NOTHING has been changed about his parents. The NSW death index row 5412/1887 should be read to see whether STEPHEN is in the registration itself or is the index compiler's slip.

A birth at Bolwarra in March 1855 is ten months before that marriage in the same village, which is a check on the place as well as on the parentage.
