Born 17 November 1814 and baptised at Hatfield Heath in Essex on 23 July 1815, the son of John Savell and Rebecca Peacock. The English family spelled the name SAVELL and baptised in a non-conformist congregation, which is why no Anglican parish register search found him: FreeREG's Essex coverage is Church of England only. His convict indent gives his native place as 'Essex' with no parish, and his conditional-pardon register agrees; the parish comes from the baptism, not from any Australian record. His father was buried on 8 March 1815, when Benjamin was four months old. He was 19 on arrival in March 1833 and 34 in 1848, both implying 1813-14, which is the usual overstatement. No place id: the tree has no Hatfield Heath row.

Lansdowne, New South Wales, Australia

Died at Lansdowne on the Manning River, where he had lived for some forty years, and was buried in Lansdowne General Cemetery (plot 'Ang') under a plaque calling him 'First settler of Lansdowne'. His death was registered in the TAREE district, 4208/1896, and the index records both his parents as UNKNOWN. Taree is the registration district, not necessarily the place of death, and it covers Lansdowne; WikiTree's narrative says he died at Taree while its own data field says Lansdowne. Lansdowne is recorded here as the more likely of the two — reversible if a death certificate ever says otherwise.
