The bracketed expansions are the transcriber's, of the register's single-letter abbreviations; 'Chelmsford' is bracketed because his own Where-tried cell holds a ditto mark and Chelmsford is the name it dittos. The right-hand page continues 23 July 1832, Life, and a description of about 5 ft 1, ruddy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, with a later annotation carrying his conditional-pardon reference and the date 1 June 1848. THE FINDING THAT MATTERS: the Native place column reads 'Essex' and nothing more. The indent is the record that normally names a convict's parish, and here it does not.

The same indent row (media 394), cited here for the trial it records. His Where-tried cell is a ditto mark under Chelmsford and the When-tried column reads 23 July 1832 — the Essex summer assizes. The pardon register gives the identical conviction date independently.
