For “Emigrated” DEC 1850 of Johann Carl Pech

With his parents he left Hamburg, in December 1850, in the sailing vessel "Australia" arriving in South Australia after a voyage of 16 weeks, Captain Johann Meyer being in charge, the ship having 200 souls on board. The voyage-was made via Cape of Good Hope, no calls being made on the trip.

This INDEPENDENTLY CORROBORATES the compiled Moad family sheet cited in the applied proposal #1914, which gives his immigration as "im. 15 Dec 1850, 'Australia', age: 9" — same ship, same month, and a compiled site could not plausibly have invented the captain, the passenger count and the route. A DISCREPANCY WORTH NOTING: the sheet's 15 Dec 1850 must be the DEPARTURE, since a sixteen-week voyage from Hamburg in December 1850 lands in South Australia about April 1851. The event is therefore dated to the departure and typed as an emigration. The obituary adds that his father settled first at Rosenthal near Gawler, threshing wheat with flails at Lyndoch for eightpence a bushel, before the family moved to the Angaston district as tenant farmers of George Fife Angas.

For “Buried” FEB 1934 of Johann Carl Pech

He was a loyal supporter and member of the Pine Cteek Lutheran Church, in the graveyard of which his body was interned on Friday last.

Quoted as the OCR renders it, misspellings included. The paper is dated Friday 16 February and he died Thursday 9 February, so "Friday last" is 10 February 1934; the event carries the month rather than that inference. Note for future work: the Australian Cemeteries Index does NOT cover Pine Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Appila — tested directly — which is why this family is largely absent from it despite being buried in South Australia.
