For Michael Sullivan (1843–1917)

SULLIVAN.- November 3, 1927, at her residence, Nardie, 3 Owen-street, Willoughby, Julia, relict of the late Michael Sullivan, of Enfield. In her 82nd year, R.I.P.

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands. 'Relict of the late Michael Sullivan, of Enfield' is the whole of what is asserted for him here: he was married to Julia, he lived at Enfield, and he was dead by 3 November 1927. That is why his death date is entered as BEF 3 NOV 1927 rather than taken from any index row.

For Michael Sullivan (1843–1917)

SULLIVAN.-Ancust 12, at his residence, Lily-street, Enfield, Michael Sullivan, aged 74 year .

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands, including 'Ancust' for August and the broken 'year .' at the end. Short as it is, this is the record that identifies him: the address is the Lily Street, Enfield house his family gave in his daughter Julia's death and funeral notices of August 1908, and the Enfield his widow's 1927 notice calls him 'of'. An age of 74 in August 1917 puts his birth about 1843, which is why the Caheragh baptism of 1833 cited beside this is ruled out.

For Julia Collins (1846–1927)

SULLIVAN.- November 3, 1927, at her residence, Nardie, 3 Owen-street, Willoughby, Julia, relict of the late Michael Sullivan, of Enfield. In her 82nd year, R.I.P.

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands. This one sentence does three things: it identifies the Julia Sullivan who died at Willoughby as the widow of the Michael Sullivan OF ENFIELD, i.e. the Lily Street household of the 1908 notices; it dates her death; and 'in her 82nd year' puts her birth about 1846. The funeral notice in the same paper (article 16416297) takes her from Our Lady of Dolours, Chatswood, to the Catholic cemetery at Rookwood, where her daughters Julia and Margaret also lie.

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands. Julia Sullivan, named first among the executrices of Michael Sullivan of Lily Street, Enfield, is his widow β€” the woman whose own death notice ten years later calls her "relict of the late Michael Sullivan, of Enfield". It is a third independent record of the marriage, after that notice and the 1908 notices naming the couple together.

For Julia Sullivan (1880–1908)

SULLIVAN. August 16, at Sydney Hospital, of pneu- monia, Julia, fifth beloved daughter of Michael and Julia Sullivan, Lily-street, Enfield, aged 28 years. R.I.P.

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands. Her age of 28 gives a birth about 1880. The Sydney Mail of 26 August 1908 (article 165398027) carries the short form, 'SULLIVAN. August 16, at Sydney Hospital, of pneu monia, Julia Sullivan, aged 28 years.'

For Johanna Sullivan (1866–1941)

SULLIVAN. September 1, 1941, Hannah, second daughter of the late Michael and Julia Sullivan, of Enfield, and loved sister of Margaret (Mrs. J. Grenenger), Ellen and Edith. Requiescat in pace.

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands, with the notice's internal line break rendered as a space; the clipping stamped here prints it identically. THIS IS THE RECORD THE WHOLE SIBLING SET RESTS ON. Hannah is the anglicised form of Johanna, the name under which this person was baptised at Caheragh; her parents are Michael and Julia Sullivan of Enfield, which is this couple; and "Margaret (Mrs. J. Grenenger)" is Margaret #82882, who married John August Grenenger in 1896. "Second daughter" is discussed in the note on the citation of this notice on the family.

For Johanna Sullivan (1866–1941)

SULLIVAN. September 1, 1941, at West-ern Suburbs Hospital, Hannah Sullivan, of 4 Angel Road, Strathfield, second daughter of the late Michael and Julia Sullivan, of En-field, and loved sister of Margaret (Mrs. Grenenger), Ellen, and Edith.

The fuller notice, three days later, quoted as the Trove OCR stands including the line-break hyphens in "West-ern" and "En-field". It adds the hospital and her own address. The Western Suburbs Hospital was at Croydon: a SANDERS notice in the same column of the 3 September paper reads "September 2, 1941, at Western Suburbs Hospital, Croydon". That is the basis for the death place.

For Henry Cole (1841–1914)

COLE. June 15, 1914, at his residence, Huon, Addi-son-street, Kensington, Henry Cole, late of Bega, N.S.W., aged 73 years.

Death notice, quoted as the Trove OCR stands (line-break hyphen included); I read this article myself. 'late of Bega' is what makes this the right Henry Cole and not one of the many others. For Edith May Sullivan (d. 1960)

SULLIVAN. September 1, 1941, Hannah, second daughter of the late Michael and Julia Sullivan, of Enfield, and loved sister of Margaret (Mrs. J. Grenenger), Ellen and Edith. Requiescat in pace.

The record that makes her a daughter of this couple: her sister Hannah's death notice names their parents as Michael and Julia Sullivan of Enfield and lists the surviving sisters as Margaret, Ellen and Edith. Quoted as the Trove OCR stands.

GRENENGER. - January 30, 1946, at a private hospital, Croydon, Margaret, beloved wife of John August Grenenger, loved mother of Dorothy (Mrs. V. Sams), Albert, Eileen (Mrs. J. Blair), Leslie, Ronald, and Edith, dear sister of Ellie, and Edith Sullivan, aged 77 years. R.I.P.

Margaret's own death notice, five years later, quoted as the Trove OCR stands. "Dear sister of Ellie, and Edith Sullivan": Edith was still alive and still unmarried in 1946, which is consistent with her dying a Miss Sullivan at Enfield in 1960.

The probate advertisement for her father's will, quoted as the Trove OCR stands; the clipping stamped here prints the names plainly. ELLEN SULLIVAN is executrix jointly with her mother Julia β€” the adult unmarried daughter of the house, twenty-four years before the 1941 notice names her again. It is the earliest record of her.

For Ellen May Sullivan (d. 1963)

GRENENGER. - January 30, 1946, at a private hospital, Croydon, Margaret, beloved wife of John August Grenenger, loved mother of Dorothy (Mrs. V. Sams), Albert, Eileen (Mrs. J. Blair), Leslie, Ronald, and Edith, dear sister of Ellie, and Edith Sullivan, aged 77 years. R.I.P.

Margaret's own death notice, quoted as the Trove OCR stands. "Dear sister of Ellie, and Edith Sullivan" β€” Ellie is the household form of Ellen, and this is the same pair of surviving unmarried sisters the 1941 notice names. It is the reason the nickname row is added.
