Free official index, one search covering all three registers. Rolling published windows, stated by the form itself: births to 28/08/1926, marriages to 28/08/1976, deaths to 28/08/1996 (100/50/30 years) - outside those the absence of a row is a bounded negative, not a gap. Death and birth rows name both parents' given names, the identity discriminator. The birth index also carries the pre-1856 early church-register series with V-prefixed reference numbers, which the site warns may be baptisms or burials rather than births. The historical index publishes the registration YEAR only, never a day or month. Not scriptable: Cloudflare answers every scripted request with a 403 managed challenge, which clears in real Chrome. Certificate images are purchased separately and were not viewed. Which register a citation came from is recorded in its locator Index key.

Unavailable | STILLER ALFRED R | 18568/1919 | LEO P | MARY | PEAK HILL || Unavailable | STILLER ALFRED R | 18946/1922 | LEO P | MARY | PEAK HILL

A CHILD OF ABOUT THREE, which the death registration alone could not have shown. Both rows name the same parents in the same district. The index publishes years only, so no day or month is available for either and no exact age can be given. He and George S are the second and third of Leo Paul and Mary's children to die small.

Unavailable | STILLER DAPHNE J | 38837/1925 | JOHN A R N | DAPHNE M | BATHURST

Both parents named. JOHN A R N is John Albert Stiller #82641, whose own birth registration renders him JOHN A R M β€” one initial differs between the two rows, which is index transcription, not two men: the parents on his birth row are Leo P and Mary of Peak Hill and this is the only John A R Stiller in the index. Registered at BATHURST, well south of the family's Peak Hill base, so the couple had moved by 1925; he died at Matraville in Sydney in 1974. Nothing further is known of the daughter.

His parents are Wenzel #82883 and Harriet Mary Finch #82884. His own birth registration is still not in the index under GRENENGER, GRENINGER, GRENNINGER or GRENEGER for 1856-1900, all read.

For Harriett Rebecca Barber (1860–1950)

BARBER HARRIET | 14970/1863 | EDWIN | FRANCES | WOLLONGONG

Documented negative. The only Harriet Barber in the NSW birth index for Wollongong in this window is this child of Edwin and Frances, who is not ours. The parent-filtered search (father JOSEPH, mother CHARLOTTE, 1845-1875) returns nine rows - Andrew B 1854 twice, Emma 1856, Charles 1859, Matilda 1863, George H 1865, Priscilla J 1868, Arthur J 1871, Theresa Mary 1873 - and no Harriett. Her brother Charles's 14027/1859 WOLLONGONG row is the positive control that the family was at Wollongong and that such births were being registered, so her 1860 birth is unregistered or unindexed rather than wrongly placed.

NELSON ROBERT | 9767/1898 | WILLIAM | SARAH | KEMPSEY

NSW BDM death index, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District. Read in a Chrome pass as one of eighteen Robert Nelson deaths 1855-1915 and set aside as having 'different parents' - but William and Sarah are exactly the parents the Kempsey West monument and the Hawstead baptism give him, and Kempsey is the district. This is his registration, and the only civil record naming his parents.

New South Wales historical birth, death and marriage index Β· NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages

For Elizabeth Debenham (1819–1908)

NELSON ELIZABETH | 9860/1908 | JOHN | ELIZABETH | KEMPSEY

The row's parent columns are the reason her mother's name was in doubt. Her Whepstead christening of 12 December 1819 names John Debenham and Catherine Brownley, and the Kempsey West monument records 'dau/John & Catherine'; the informant on the 1908 certificate was her son, born thirty-six years after his grandmother died, and gave the mother's name as Elizabeth. The register is preferred and the death row is recorded here so the disagreement is visible rather than lost.

BARBER JOSEPH R | 9487/1907 | JOHN | KEMPSEY

NSW BDM death index, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District. Father JOHN and district KEMPSEY match the monument and the 1907 death notice, which is what identifies the row. The mother's column is empty, but that is STRUCTURAL, not evidential: on pre-1914 rows this index routinely uses the parent columns for an age instead, so a blank there says nothing about what the register held. The identification does not rest on it.

It was initially set aside because the parents are John and Sarah rather than a Crossingham clue - but John and Sarah are her OWN parents (John Field and Sarah), and the death index names the deceased's parents, not the spouse's. Three NSW index rows, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District, read in Chrome on 2026-09-07 and separated by ||. The death row gives Jane Sarah's parents as SAMUEL and SUSAN; the two birth rows are the two register copies of one 1855 registration in the pre-civil church-register series. They are the same parents her sister Harriet Mary's death row gives as SAMUEL and SUSANNAH, and they are the evidence for the child link proposed here. My open proposal #2195 gives her the surname FINCH from her own 1933 death notice.

For Jane Sarah Finch (1854–1933)

FINCH JANE S | 2191/1855 V18552191 142A | SAMUEL | SUSANNA | LA

NSW BDM historical birth index row, columns Name | Registration number and church-register volume | Father's given name(s) | Mother's given name(s) | District code. Her birth registration under her maiden name, which settles it: Jane Sarah FINCH, daughter of Samuel and Susanna. The same registration appears a second time as 2191/1855 V18552191 42A under district code CA (register copies were indexed twice). The V prefix marks the pre-1856 church-register series, which the registry itself warns may be a baptism rather than a birth; her age at death was given as 79 in July 1933, implying about 1854. The same parents' other children in the index are FINCH WILLIAM A 977/1851, FINCH GEORGE E 346/1858 Sydney and FINCH THERESA A 5851/1862 BRAIDWOOD β€” William Finch and Teresa Beadman, the brother and sister named in her 1933 death notice, and the family at Braidwood in the very year Harriet married Wenzel there.

FINCH SAMUEL | 2536/1886 | AGE 79 YEARS | DIED BALMAIN | BALMAIN

NSW death index row, read in Chrome on 2026-09-07; where a nineteenth-century row has no parents the index prints the age and place of death in those columns instead. Only three Samuel Finch deaths are indexed in NSW 1856-1925 and the other two are a Coonamble man (father Robert, 1880) and a 1913 death at Balmain South. The registration number is the one the Australian Cemeteries Index gives for the Samuel Finch buried at Enfield, and the place of death matches the 1886 funeral notices, which move the funeral from Birchgrove Road, Balmain. The age of 79 is a year less than the monument's 80.

BARBER JOHN | 1283/1841 V18411283 25B | AGE 49 | MC

NSW BDM early church-register death index, read in Chrome by the orchestrator. Columns are Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District; on pre-1856 rows the index puts the AGE in the father's column, so "AGE 49" is the deceased's age, not a parent. "MC" is the register code as printed; I do not interpret it. Age 49 in 1841 matches both the ABT 1792 on this record and the burial entry of 3 March 1841 in the parish of St Saviour, County of Argyle. This is the registration behind the death date the tree already held.

1928/1853 V18531928 39B | AGE 60 | MC ; 675/1851 V1851675 37B | AGE 49 | CB

Two NSW BDM early church-register death rows for a Jane Taylor, read in Chrome by the orchestrator; columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District, with the age standing in the father's column as this index does before 1856. "MC" and "CB" are the register codes as printed and are not interpreted here. Each row is the registration behind one of the two rival compiled accounts of her death β€” 30 June 1853 at Bungonia (age 60) and 1 December 1851 at Parramatta (age 49) β€” so the conflict is now between two real registrations, not between two drafts of a webpage. THE AGES DO NOT SPLIT EVENLY. The 1828 census makes Jane 27, born about 1801; "AGE 49" in 1851 gives 1802 and fits, while "AGE 60" in 1853 gives 1793 and does not. Against that, a compiled account argues the Parramatta Taylors are a different family and that the Bungonia district is where she lived after 1842. The date on this record is left at 30 JUN 1853 pending a certificate; the two other rows returned by the same search (809/1853 age 25 and 259/1853 Jane E age 33, both NV) are neither of them.

The complete result of the NSW BDM birth index search on surname BARBER with father JOHN and mother JANE, 1821-1842, read in Chrome by the orchestrator across two pages; every row has those parents, so the parent columns are omitted from the quotation. Put on the mother because it is the evidence for her family as a whole rather than for any one child. Read as a set it does three things: it confirms all nine known children, it dates the family's move by its registers (CB and CF at Parramatta and Liverpool to 1828, CM and CC in the early 1830s, MC in the Goulburn district from 1838), and its ABSENCES are meaningful, because the search was complete β€” there is no Mary Barber of 1829, which was the only child claimed for this couple that no register supports.

The complete result of the NSW BDM death index search on surname AVERY with father JOHN or JOHN A and mother CHARLOTTE, 1856-1935, read in Chrome by the orchestrator; columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District. Placed on the mother because its value here is what it says about HER NAME, and because it CORRECTS my own earlier reasoning on this record. Every record read this session that names her: her own monument gives CHARLOTTE ANNE; her son Richard William's monument gives "Charlotte Anne (Davies)"; the 1830 marriage 4892/1830 gives DAVIES CHARLOTTE with no middle name; her daughter Charlotte Emma's death row 9863/1908 gives CHARLOTTE; four of the five rows above give CHARLOTTE; and John's 1886 row gives CHARLOTTE E. So "Emma" is NOT purely a modern back-formation from the daughter, as I argued in the note to proposal #2293 and elsewhere: one of her own sons, or whoever informed for him in 1886, supplied an E. The count is five to one against Emma, and the only two records that state a middle name in full are the two monuments, both saying Anne β€” but it is a split, not a settled question, and I withdraw the recommendation to promote the Charlotte Anne aka to primary. The SURNAME finding is unaffected and stands at three independent records for DAVIES.

This is that registration β€” the only Michael Sullivan death registered in the district between 1882 and 1935 β€” and it is the source of his parents' names, PETER and MARY, who are created in this proposal on the strength of it. Where a nineteenth-century parent was not registered in full the index prints given names only, which is why Mary has no surname here or in the tree.

SULLIVAN JULIA | 19092/1927 | COLLINS 82 YEARS | O'BRIEN | CHATSWOOD

NSW death index row, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District, read in Chrome on 2026-09-07. My reading: where a parent's given name was not registered the index prints what it has, so the father column carries the surname COLLINS with the age of 82 run in after it, and the mother column carries O'BRIEN. Willoughby is in the Chatswood district and the age agrees with 'in her 82nd year'. COLLINS is therefore Julia's own maiden surname β€” the single fact that made the Irish records findable β€” and O'BRIEN her mother's.

NSW death index row, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District, read in Chrome on 2026-09-07. Parents Michael and Julia, district Sydney, which is where Sydney Hospital is; it matches the newspaper notices exactly. The only other Julia Sullivan death indexed in NSW 1875-1935 that could belong to this family is 19092/1927, a woman of about 82 who died in the Chatswood district β€” a possible identification for the mother, but nothing ties her to Enfield or to the Grenengers and she is NOT proposed.

One of only two Sullivan births in the whole index registered to a father MICHAEL and a mother JULIA between 1856 and 1890. NSW historical birth index row read in Chrome 2026-09-07; 'HARIET' is the index's own spelling of the mother's name. WikiTree Crossingham-79 gives her as Harriett Elizabeth, b. abt 1863 Oxley Island, d. 15 October 1943 North Sydney, married surname Worth - a compiled tree, so no death is set here. She was not found in the NSW death index under CROSSINGHAM, consistent with a married name.

NSW birth index row, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District, read in Chrome on 2026-09-07. The second and last of the two Sullivan births registered to a father MICHAEL and a mother JULIA in the whole NSW index 1856-1890, two years after her sister Julia and in the district next to Enfield. Nothing further is known about her: she is not the 'Ellie' or the 'Edith' of Margaret's 1946 notice on any evidence I have, and no death has been sought for her.

SULLIVAN LUCY A | 4623/1891 | MICHAEL | JULIA | BURWOOD

NSW death index, columns Name | Registration number | Father | Mother | District. The same name form as her birth registration β€” LUCY A, second given name as a bare initial β€” to the same parents in the same district nine years later. She was about nine years old. This is why she is named in none of the family's later notices: the 1908 notice for her sister Julia, the 1941 notice for Hannah and the 1946 notice for Margaret all list the survivors, and by 1908 she had been dead seventeen years. The index publishes the registration year only, never a day.

WikiTree Crossingham-38 gives him as Thomas Crossingham, b. 22 December 1842 Maitland, d. 2 November 1931 Taree - consistent with this row, and the family was at Maitland in 1840 (his brother Josiah's registration) and 1843 (his uncle Thomas's son John C). He is not to be confused with his uncle Thomas, b. 1817 Icklesham, who sailed on the Coromandel.
