For “Immigrated” 1838 of Johann Gottlob Paech
Mr. Paech belonged to a little band of religious refugees, who, on account of persecution and oppression in Prussia, sacrificed most of their earthly belongings and sought a country where they would he free from new doctrines and unjust laws imposed upon them, and where they found religious liberty and were allowed to worship as their consciences approved. Shortly after this little band of pioneers had landed, their capable and resourceful leader, Captain Hahn, pilotted them over the almost unexplored Mount Lofty Ranges. Suitable land was found in one of the valleys of the Mount Barker Ranges, and here the captain laid out the township, which was named after him, Hahndorf.
