Fairlight, Sussex, marriage register 1754–1936, typescript transcript (PAR 325/1/3/1) · Church of England · Fairlight, Sussex, England · 1833-1834
For “Married” 4 NOV 1833 of Richard Crossingham & Henrietta Tolhurst
November 4 CRASSINGHAM Richard / TOLHURST Henrietta
STILL QUALITY 2, AND THIS SAYS WHY. Media 420 is NOT the marriage register: it is the East Sussex Record Office's TYPESCRIPT transcript, headed PAR 325/1/3/1 / FAIRLIGHT / Marriages / 1833 (contd), which is what Ancestry imaged for this row - the original register was not. A typescript index is a transcriber between us and the entry, so it cannot rise above the index it is. WHAT IT DOES SETTLE: the date is 4 November, not the 3rd that one of Ancestry's two keyings gave. Theirs is the first entry of the 1833 continuation, followed by Richard Nash x Lucy King on 1 December and Edward Sharpe x Ann Eliza Watkinson on 25 December, then 1834. WHAT IT DOES NOT GIVE: conditions, witnesses, or a parish of residence for either of them - the Hastings entries lower down carry Holy Trinity, HASTINGS and theirs carries nothing, so it does not say whether either was living in Fairlight. The original register would answer all three and is still worth fetching.
