HAMMER, Jno Jos [John Joseph], Death, Mother: Ellen BALLINGER, Father: Hammer Jno, Place: Preston, Age at Death: 42, Reg. year 1909, Reg. number 10242/1909.
Both records name the father as 'Hammer Jno' (John Hammer), but the mothers differ - Elizabeth Cock/Cox for Joseph Hammer Sr, versus Ellen Ballinger here. Since John Hammer Sr (Joseph's father, already in the tree) is recorded as dying in 1861, he cannot be the father of a man born abt.1867 (implied by age 42 at death in 1909) - so this is almost certainly a different, unconnected John Hammer, not John Hammer Sr under a second marriage. Added as a standalone family per Helen's standing instruction to include everyone even without a confirmed link, since the shared father's name and Victorian location could still indicate a more distant relationship (e.g. a cousin also named John Hammer) worth investigating later.
Ada Hammer, mother Elizabeth Yeadon Busfield, father John Richard, Ballarat East, 2 days old, d.1895, reg.7999/1895. Jno Hammer, mother Elizabeth Busfield, father John Richard, Ballarat East, 1 day old, d.1896, reg.4712/1896.
Children of William Hammer and Elizabeth/Eliza Jane Treloar (Ballarat/Stawell/Pleasant Creek, 1872-1882): Maria Alfred[a] (9 months, d.1872, reg.8581/1872), Jane Frances (8 months, d.1878, reg.12235/1878), Albert Henry Treloar (3 months, d.1881, reg.5516/1881), Ernest Varcoe (4 months, d.1881, reg.5541/1881), Jane Frances (5 months, d.1882, reg.13442/1882 - a second daughter given the same name after the first died), John (age 11, d.1882, reg.7152/1882).
UNCERTAIN whether this William is Richard Hammer Sr's son William (1846-1896, added bare with no spouse in proposal #806) - the birth year matches exactly and the family's known Ballarat/Stawell/Pleasant Creek locations fit, but nothing here directly confirms it beyond the coincidence. Two (Albert Henry Treloar and Ernest Varcoe, both dying within days of each other in 1881 at 3-4 months old) may well be twins.
Children of Henry Hammer and Emma Grange (recorded once as 'Grangey', Eaglehawk, Victoria): Jane (age 3, d.1876, reg.1383/1876), William (age 26, d.1877, reg.10791/1877, implying birth abt.1851), James (age 23, d.1878, reg.11825/1878, implying birth abt.1855).
This is the previously-bare 'Henry Hammer (1800)' - one of John Hamer and Loveday Clemo's children (the 'great-aunts/uncles' generation flagged as needing detail since early in this project), now given a wife and three children found via Victorian BDM.
Phillip Hammer, mother Maria Tonkin, father Richard, Ballarat East, age 47, d.1893, reg.4716/1893. Lavinia Jane Hammer, mother Elizabeth Jane Luke, father Philip, Ballarat, 8 months old, d.1875, reg.220/1875. Albert Ernest Hammer, mother Elizabeth Jane Luke, father Philip, Stawell, age 4, d.1882, reg.7142/1882. Elizth Jane Hammer, mother Maria Tonkin [sic - likely a clerical error naming the grandmother rather than the actual mother, Elizabeth Jane Luke], father Philip, Stawell, 6 months old, d.1880, reg.2273/1880. Roda Maria Hammer, mother Elizth Jane Luke, father Phillip Hy, Ballarat Hospital, age 13, d.1898, reg.5735/1898.
CORRECTIONS to proposal #813's 'phillip_sr' record: his own death record gives age 47 in 1893, implying birth abt.1846 - not abt.1850 as previously estimated. His death place is Ballarat East, Victoria - not St Austell, Cornwall, which was mistakenly carried over from his birthplace in #813.
Chas Gordon Hammer, mother Mary Jane Evans, father Alfred, Eaglehawk, 5 months old, d.1895, reg.13026/1895.
Given name 'Evans' appears - a surname that keeps recurring near this family (the WA McLachlan-Hammer connections) but nothing here confirms any link; treated as coincidence.
HAMMER, Jos [Joseph], Death, Mother: Elizth COX, Father: Hammer Jno, Place: Ballt [Ballarat], Age at Death: 63, Reg. year 1902, Reg. number 8149/1902.
PRIMARY SOURCE CONFIRMATION of Joseph Hammer Sr's death year. Age 63 in 1902 implies birth abt.1839, matching his known birth year exactly. Parents given as 'Hammer Jno' (John Hammer) and 'Elizth COX' - Cox is almost certainly the same woman as Elizabeth Cock (John Hammer's wife, already in the tree), a minor spelling variant of a Cornish surname. This upgrades the death date from a WikiTree-sourced inference (proposal #833, quality 2) to a directly registered civil record.
Maria Elizabeth Hammer, mother Annie [Brokenshire], father Richard, Durham [Lead], age 4, d.1871, reg.3008/1871 (corrects her birth year to abt.1867, not abt.1866 as previously estimated).
Richard Hammer Jr (1842-1924, Richard Hammer Sr's son) and his marriage/13 children were previously only known from a WikiTree descendants pull, never formally added to the tree - this proposal does so, with several ages corrected by Victorian BDM death records. Richard Jr himself is recreated fresh here (a duplicate of the 'c2' child in pending proposal #806) and will need a person.merge once #806 is approved.
Katie Sophia Hammer, mother Ann Brokenshire, father Richd, Ballarat, age 8, d.1889, reg.15078/1889.
CORRECTS her birth year - previously assumed abt.1889 from an earlier WikiTree pull that listed only a bare birth year with no death; this BDM death record shows she died in 1889 at age 8, implying birth abt.1881, not 1889.
Philip Lionel Hammer, mother Elizth Busfield, father John, Ballarat East, 10 months old, d.1899, reg.12207/1899.
A previously unknown child - not listed in the earlier WikiTree pull, which otherwise gave 12 children for John Richard Hammer across both marriages. Born close to his mother Elizabeth Yeadon Busfield's own 1900 death.
Ctina Johnson Hammer, parents unknown, Ballarat Hospital, age 10, d.1899, reg.4391/1899.
Very low information - both parents unknown on this record. Given name recorded oddly as two words ('Ctina Johnson'); kept as-is rather than guessed at.
Bertha Hammer, mother Bertha [surname unknown], father Isaac Keller [sic], Beaufort, age 61, d.1890, reg.14747/1890.
Father's name field oddly shows 'Keller Isaac' rather than a Hammer - possibly her husband's name misplaced in the wrong field on this record, rather than her actual father. Kept unresolved rather than guessed at.
Louis Adelphus Hammer, parents unknown, Prahran, age 75, d.1898, reg.9265/1898.
Not the same Louis Hammer found in WA BDM (son of Joseph Hammer x Eva Wood, d.1927 age65) - that man's implied birth year (abt.1862) doesn't match this one's (abt.1823).
Heinrich Casper Hammer, parents unknown, died at sea on board 'Malvina Vidal', age 30, d.1854, reg.409/1854.
Died at sea, age 30, aboard the ship 'Malvina Vidal' in 1854 - a Germanic name unlike the rest of this Cornish family, and the earliest death record found in this whole search. Almost certainly unconnected, but kept per Helen's standing instruction, and worth noting purely as a striking record.
