The official digitised annual calendars of grants of probate and letters of administration, searched full-text at probatesearch.service.gov.uk. Distinct from the Ancestry republications already in this tree (sources 1061 and 1292): this is the Crown's own scan set and the text quoted is OCR of the calendar page itself. The calendars print two columns per page and the OCR interleaves them, so a quoted entry can contain a fragment of the neighbouring entry.

For “Residence” 1884 of John Ferrell Burton

and of Stanley Villa Sturry in the County of Kent

The tree records his widow and daughter at "Stanley Villas, Westbere" in 1891; Sturry and Westbere are adjoining Kent parishes, so this is very likely the same house differently addressed. Recorded against Sturry, the parish the probate calendar names.

For John Ferrell Burton & Susan Lindon

was granted at the Principal Registry to Susan Burton of Stanley Villa Widow the Relict.

A grant to a woman as "the Relict" is a determination that she was the deceased's lawful wife, so this evidences a formal marriage where this family previously recorded the union type as "unknown". No marriage date or place is asserted: no marriage registration for them was found in the GRO index.

For William Edward Bowler (1881–1965)

BOWLER William Edward of 28 Swalecliffe Court Drive Administration Oxford 13 April to Leonard Bowler Swalecliffe Whitstable Kenti died 15 April 1965 at packer. £134. Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital Kent Probate Lewes 11 June to Laura Bowler widow. $290.

Image file 000958_bowler_1965.Png. The calendar prints two columns and the OCR interleaves them: the fragments "Administration Oxford 13 April to Leonard Bowler", "packer. £134." and the stray "Kenti"/"$290" belong to the neighbouring entry or are OCR noise. The entry reads: William Edward Bowler of 28 Swalecliffe Court Drive, Swalecliffe, Whitstable, Kent, died 15 April 1965 at Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital, Kent; probate Lewes 11 June to Laura Bowler, widow. IDENTIFICATION: the widow is Laura, and this man married Laura Chittenden at Maidstone in the June quarter of 1919 (family 32407, already cited). Swalecliffe is four miles from Canterbury where he was born and married. This is the hard discriminator that the 1963 Ealing row lacked.

Brighton in the County of Sussex and of Stanley Villa Sturry in the County of Kent Hotel Keeper who died 16 August 1884 at the Sussex County Hospital Brighton was granted at the Principal Registry to Susan Burton of Stanley Villa Widow the Relict.

Image file 000836_burton_1884.Png. For Aaron Burton (1819–1894)

BURTON Aaron of 41 Marine-parade Sheerness Kent died 3 January 1894 Probate London 6 February to George Woodthorpe electrician Effects £175.

Image file 000324_burrows_1894.Png. The only Aaron Burton in the 1894 calendar. Sheerness is the town on the Isle of Sheppey next to Minster in Sheppey, where this man is enumerated in 1851, 1861, 1881 and 1891, and the date falls in the January the record already carried. Fixes the death to 3 January 1894. Sheerness is not in the place table and was NOT created; the death place is set instead to the existing row "Sheppey, Kent, England" (#7008), which is both the island and the registration district.

For Laura Chittenden (1886–1976)

BOWLER, Laura of Radley 28 Queens Rd Whitstable Kent died BOWLER, Wilfred of 89 Forest Gate Anstey Leics died 27 February 1976 Probate Brighton 3 June £1104 21 November 1975 Probate Nott ingham 25 February £3915 760602879J 762501294T

National Probate Calendar page prints two columns; the extraction interleaves this entry line-by-line with the adjacent unrelated entry for 'BOWLER, Wilfred' of Anstey, Leics — quoted exactly as extracted, uncleaned. Disentangled reading (by the same interleaving pattern visible elsewhere on the page): 'BOWLER, Laura of Radley 28 Queens Rd Whitstable Kent died 27 February 1976. Probate Brighton 3 June. £1104. 760602879J.' Identity: surname Bowler + town Whitstable, Kent matches her husband William Edward Bowler's own already-cited 1965 probate address (28 Swalecliffe Court Drive, Swalecliffe, Whitstable, Kent — person 21712); the death date falls inside the Mar-quarter-1976 Canterbury death-index registration found above. Sets the exact deathDate '27 FEB 1976' (supersedes the FreeBMD quarter-only record in precision).
