A name index to the British convict transportation registers (TNA series HO 11), one row per convict giving trial place, trial date, sentence, ship and arrival year, with the HO 11 piece and page cited on every record. A transcription, not an image, so quality 2 — but of a primary register and with the archival reference given, which is what separates it from a family tree. Scriptable: the search form posts `criteria` and `year` to results.php (it returns HTTP 406 to a bare curl user-agent; a browser user-agent and a Referer clear it), and each hit has a stable convictDetails.php?convictId=N page. The index is comprehensive enough for its absences to mean something: a search on Davis returns 814 convicts including women on the 1826-1828 female transports.

This is the first source in this tree, other than a compiled family history, to state his trial place, trial date, sentence and ship together, and it gives the register reference. It agrees exactly with the England & Wales Criminal Registers row already on this person ("John Barber | Feb. 1814 | Cambridgeshire, England | Death") — a capital sentence at the Isle of Ely in February 1814, reprieved to fourteen years' transportation — and with the Sydney Gazette of 23 April 1828, which lists a John Barber per Marquis of Wellington receiving his certificate of freedom exactly fourteen years later. Only one John Barber appears in the index for this ship.
