For “Residence” FROM 1857 TO 1881 of John Field

CHILD BURNT -On Wednesday, the 23rd August last, Mercey Esther Field, daughtor of John Field, of Oxloy Island, was in oompany with two other chlldron nt tho ndjiimng farm, where William Albury and Oeorge Cmsewere at work.

Quoted as the Trove OCR stands; it reads 'Mercy Esther Field, daughter of John Field, of Oxley Island, was in company with two other children at the adjoining farm, where William Albury and George Cruse were at work'. A Maitland reprint of the Manning River News of 2 September 1865. Three things: it puts John Field on Oxley Island in August 1865, which is what this residence event asserts; it names a daughter, Mercy Esther, who lingered 'in great agony 36 hours, and then expired' - a child of his second marriage, not yet in the tree; and the neighbour on the adjoining farm is WILLIAM ALBURY, which is the surname of John's second wife, Margaret Ann Albury.
