Browser-and-signed-in only: a plain fetch of a record URL returns HTTP 200 with a 'Join Ancestry' signup page and no record data, tested 2026-09-08. The collection routinely keys ONE baptism several times, and not always consistently - Richard Crossingham's 1813 entry appears four times across two parishes because two registers recorded it, and this Watson entry appears twice under different years because the page header spans '1814 & 15'. A count of hits is not a count of events, and a year in this index is not a year in the register.

The last of the four Brede baptisms to this couple, relayed verbatim from a signed-in browser 2026-09-08 in the index's own field order; the first is Sarah's on 12 January 1815, read from the register page itself (media 400), where the abode column says Brede and the trade column labourer. Four baptisms nine years apart in one parish is what this residence event records. IT ALSO BEARS ON A LARGER QUESTION: whether the Watsons followed their daughter to New South Wales. They had not left Brede by February 1824, fourteen years before Sarah sailed on the James Pattison. Their burials have not been found - an Ancestry 62128 sweep for Watson burials 1815-1865 keyed to Brede returned 61 rows with no Brede or Udimore in the place column, but the keyword filter there is unreliable and that is NOT a settled negative.

One of four baptisms to William and Jane Watson at Brede between 1815 and 1824 (Sarah 1815, Hannah 1819, Thomas 1822, James 1824), relayed verbatim from a signed-in browser 2026-09-08. A CHECKED NEGATIVE recorded here because it matters for this couple: their MARRIAGE is not in East Sussex. Ancestry 62126 (East Sussex marriages and banns 1754-1936) searched for William Watson with spouse Jane, 1803-1815, returns nothing at all, and the only William Watson marriages in the county in that window are 6 May 1803 at Hastings St Clement to Sarah Giles and 24 May 1814 at Mountfield to Elizabeth Jarret. Positive control: the same collection returns Thomas Crassingham to Keziah Noakes at Rye on 3 August 1804. So they married outside East Sussex - Kent is the obvious neighbour to try - or before 1803. Jane's maiden name is still unknown and is not invented here.
