The month is carried by the preceding entry, 'Martin July 15th', under the year heading 1810; the dash stands for the repeated month.

The month comes from the preceding entries under the year 1810, 'Chester Nov. 11' and 'Stace 18'. This baptism was not previously known - Martha had only her Icklesham burial of 5 August 1813 - and it is the earliest record of the family at Udimore, pushing their years there back from 1813 to 1810. The surname is entered CRASSINGHAM, the form used at the 1804 Rye marriage. No birth place is set: the register gives the parish of the ceremony, not where the family lived, and their 'of Brede Minor' abode is only attested from 1813.

An English parish register naming John and Mary Field as the parents. Until now this couple existed only on the strength of the 'Father John Field | Mother Mary Field' columns of the 1838 James Pattison bounty list - a colonial record made twenty-eight years later and half a world away. Mary's maiden name, Bromley, comes from the couple's own marriage at Udimore on 20 December 1797. WHAT THE 2026-09-08 CHROME SWEEP ADDED AND DID NOT ADD. Their household at Udimore, from Ancestry 62049 baptisms 1798-1814: William 26 March 1799, Sarah 19 June 1808 and John 29 July 1810, all to a John and Mary. William's entry shows NO PARISH in the index and is still not attached to this family - fifteen months after the marriage fits perfectly, and that is exactly why it should not be taken on a fit alone; the register image would settle it. A separate Field household is in the same register - Ann, baptised at Udimore on 26 January 1812, illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Field - and is not connected here. A CHECKED NEGATIVE on John Field senior's own origins: Ancestry 62049 was searched for John Field baptisms 1769-1783 and returned 14 rows, NONE of them at Udimore or Brede. The nearest candidate is a John Field baptised at Winchelsea on 20 August 1775 to William and Ann, four miles away, with a sister Jane baptised there in 1781 - but there is no discriminator whatever beyond district and approximate date, so nothing is asserted. The others are Winchelsea 13 November 1769 (Robert x Susanna) and Frant 20 March 1774 (Charles x Mary). His burial has not been searched.
