For Michael Sullivan (1843–1917)

REFUTED, kept so the reasoning stays visible. I offered this Caheragh baptism as a candidate for his own, on the strength of the parish and of the father's name PETER matching his NSW death registration. His death notice of 14 August 1917 rules it out: he was 74, so born about 1843, and a man baptised in September 1833 would have been 84. The mother's name disagrees too — this entry says Joa[nna] Collins where the death registration says MARY. FamilySearch has no Cork baptism for a Michael Sullivan to a Peter and a Mary in the 1840s, so his own baptism is still unfound and his parents are recorded from the civil death row alone.

A CANDIDATE, NOT AN IDENTIFICATION — quality 1 kept, and her parents are still deliberately NOT created. FamilySearch shows the whole family this entry belongs to, all baptised to Pat(rick) Collins and Mary Brien in the Catholic parish registers: Tom, 2 Feb 1833 Kilmacabea; Nancy, 19 Jul 1841 Drimoleague; JULIA, 2 Jul 1843 Caheragh; Denis, 10 Dec 1846 Drimoleague; Mary, 16 Feb 1847 Caheragh; Peg, 1 Feb 1849 Drimoleague; Patk, 22 Feb 1852 Drimoleague. Drimoleague and Caheragh adjoin, and Kilmacabea is close by, so this is one family moving between neighbouring west Cork parishes — and 'Brien' is the O'BRIEN her NSW death registration gives as her mother's surname, beside COLLINS for her father. That is a coherent match in the right place with both surnames right. What still stops it being an identification: a baptism in July 1843 would make her 84 in November 1927, where her death notice says she was in her 82nd year, and Collins and O'Brien are among the commonest names in the district. The Caheragh and Drimoleague registers on registers.nli.ie, or her own marriage entry naming her father, would settle it.
