A Cape probate record for the same man (ark QG2W-5KKJ) gives 24 May 1905 and a birth in 1841 at 'Ralford' Hertfordshire, a garbling of Barkway; the civil register is preferred for the date. The 'Birth 1840' here agrees with the Barkway baptism register's stated 29 January 1840.

A Cape probate record for the same man (FamilySearch ark QG2W-5KKJ) gives the death as 24 May 1905 and the birth as 1841 at 'Ralford' [Barkway], Hertfordshire, England; the civil death record is preferred for the date, and the probate row is left uncited because only an elided fragment of it was captured. His widow Fanny Elizabeth also has a Cape probate record, ark QPS2-P2PR, not yet opened.
