CHILD KILLED BY TRUCK. The danger of children playing in public streets was again painfully brought home by the death of Ann, the three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleasby, of New street. The child, while playing with others near the Housing Commission homes. ran across the road and was struck by a utility truck driven by Mr. L Wilson, who did everything possible to avert an accident. The little victim was frightfully mutilated and was dead on arrival at the hos-pital. Great sympathy is extended to the parents in their tragic loss.

Gives the family's address: New Street, Portland.

OCR as it stands; reads 'Girls, 6-10: O. Holland 1, P. Beauglehole 2, G. Cleasby 3'. Bazaar held at Gorae (10 km north of Portland) on Saturday 26 October 1946. Only a 'G. Cleasby' of the right age for Glenys (girls 10-11 in Jan 1950), so weak alone; it is the earliest Portland-district trace of the family and agrees with Ann's birth at Portland c1946-47.
