Bligh was born in Warwick, Queensland. She is a descendant of William Bligh, who is famous for the Mutiny on the Bounty and being the 4th Governor of New South Wales.

Wikipedia cites one source for it, Hedley Thomas, 'Bligh reveals family's dark secret', The Australian, 12 January 2008; that article is paywalled, its URL now redirects, and no Internet Archive capture of it holds any content (all captures are 302 or 403 responses), so it was NOT read and is not quoted. The assertion does not rest on it alone: this proposal separately evidences every intermediate generation from Queensland and New South Wales registrations and contemporaneous newspaper notices, and the family itself asserted the descent in print in 1925.
