James Scobie and Rebecca Wright sailed in 1828, stopping first at Utica, New York, before moving to Lanark Township, Ontario. A family letter from daughter Elizabeth dated 26 June 1827 is addressed to them at North Woodside, Glasgow, and speaks of visiting before 'they saile'. First land purchase Lanark Twp 26 Sep 1832 (SW half Lot 18, Con. 8), signed with his X; NE half Lot 19 on 7 Feb 1840.
Establishes Man A as continuously in Canada from 1828, which is what makes the Scottish 1841 and 1851 residences impossible for him. Alexander James Scobie independently told the 1842 census he had been in Canada 14 years, also fixing arrival at 1828.
