Andrew Heck, aged 22, of Glamorgan Vale, was found lying on the Fernvale–Glamorgan Vale road about 200 yards from the Kreis gate after falling from his horse. A witness recorded as "Johanna Kreis" saw his riderless horse from the cow-shed and went down with her son-in-law Wilhelm Berderow; Mr John Kreis and Mrs Catherine Lupke were attending to him when Joseph Glennie arrived.
