Queensland Minister for Health and Home Affairs from August 1957 until his death. The parliamentary register records that under his direction considerable expansion took place in medical, health and hospital services: he founded the open heart surgical unit at Chermside Hospital, was instrumental in establishing a neuro-psychiatric unit there and a cytology department at the Brisbane Women's Hospital, and established annexes in many hospitals across the state for the aged and infirm and for handicapped children.
