Ostritz, Brandenburg, Prussia

Historical place· 1945 city PL 52.051, 15.761

Renamed Ostrzyce, Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland — map location from the modern place

CHECKED: the stored county 'Brandenburg' is CORRECT and this is NOT the Saxon Ostritz on the Neisse. Meyers Gazetteer (place/20432014) has 'Ostritz, Dorf und Rittergut, Kreis Zuellichau-Schwiebus, Regierungsbezirk Frankfurt, Brandenburg, Preussen', Standesamt Bork. That is eastern Brandenburg, ceded to Poland in 1945 and renamed Ostrzyce (gmina Trzebiechow; Bork = Borek in the same gmina). The family fits: the Materne/Roocke/Rogasch births 1802-1868 belong to the Old Lutheran emigration from Kreis Zuellichau-Schwiebus to the Barossa Valley, South Australia (Johann Wilhelm Materne #53894 married at Angaston in 1863) - the same corner of Brandenburg as Klemzig (#8794) and Kay (#8328) in this batch.

"Ostritz - Dorf und Rittergut. Kreis: Zuellichau-Schwiebus. Regierungsbezirk: Frankfurt. Brandenburg, Preussen. Standesamt Bork; Bezirkskommando Crossen; population 383." This places the recorded Ostritz in eastern Brandenburg (today Ostrzyce, gmina Trzebiechow), not in Saxony.
