Promoted temporary brigadier and given the task of raising and commanding the 13th Infantry Brigade when the 4th and 5th Divisions were formed. He led the brigade for over two years on the Western Front, at Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Messines, Passchendaele and Dernancourt. On 25 April 1918, with Harold Elliott's 15th Brigade, the 13th recaptured Villers-Bretonneux after the Germans had overrun the British 8th Division. Before the counter-attack Glasgow refused a British order to attack at 8 p.m. across the enemy's front, saying it could not be done in daylight; the attack went in at 10 p.m. and succeeded.
