Ruth: 'The stone house on the Rideau I mentioned to you is the one shown in the photo' and 'this photograph of our mutual ancestors'. Caption in the printed book (p.14, SAMUEL SCOBIE AND ELLEN MILLER chapter), verbatim: 'Back: Homer, Rebecca, James Cyrus. Middle: Jennet, Ellen, Samuel, Jane. Front: Theodore, John'. Ten people: four standing at back, four seated in the middle row (Samuel, white-bearded, centre on a fur robe), two young men on the grass in front with croquet mallets.
