Column 3 carries the obituary: 'MRS. W. CHAPMAN. The late Mrs. W. Chapman--Mary Elizabeth Field--was born at the Cowpastures, Camden district, on 3rd September, 1840. Her mother died while she was young, and she lived with her grandmother for some time. Her father, the late John Field, was a local preacher, and afterwards removed to Bolwarra, on the Hunter River. As a girl, Mrs. Chapman had very little opportunity of attending school, but she dearly loved her Sunday school, which was one of the largest in New South Wales at the time... At the age of twelve she was converted in a camp meeting held on the Hunter River... After some happy years on the Hunter she removed with her parents to the Manning River, settling at Oxley Island, which was then all wild bush. Later she married William Chapman, and reared a family of six sons and three daughters... At one time she told her class leader on Jones' Island that she would have to leave off attending his class...'. Mary Elizabeth Field is a daughter of John Field (1810-1887) and Sarah Jane Watson (1814-1842) and matches the NSW church-register birth registration FIELD MARY E, 258/1840 V1840258 54, parents JOHN and SARAH. The obituary is the only narrative source for this family's route across New South Wales.
