The Gowrie scrub: scrub country on the old Gowrie run north-west of Toowoomba, thrown open for homestead selection under the Land Act of 1875 and taken up largely by German selectors. Contemporary usage pairs it with Glencoe ('Mr. Mathias Schefe of Gowrie Scrub, Glen coe', Darling Downs Gazette 1894; the 'selectors In tho Gowrie Scrub' petitioning over Glencoe School, 1883), the district's dead being buried at Meringandan. Linked to present-day Glencoe as the successor name; coordinates inherited from it.
