## Timeline
- 27 FEB 1806 — **Born** at Rayleigh, Essex, England — Born at Rayleigh, Essex. The date and place come from his entry in the non-parochial registers surrendered to the Registrar General (TNA series RG 4-8), which record a date of birth; they are corroborated by the FamilySearch christening index and by the St Vincent passenger list of 1849, which gives his place of origin as Raleigh, Essex. He is NOT in the Rayleigh parish register: a full sweep of its seventeen transcribed Finch baptisms for 1790-1835 contains no child of a William and a Mercy, so the family were dissenters and the chapel has still to be identified.
- 13 MAR 1849 — **Immigrated** at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia — Arrived at Sydney on the ST VINCENT as an assisted immigrant, with his wife Susannah and their children Harriett (3) and Henry James (0). His place of origin is given as Raleigh, Essex.
- FROM 1860 TO 1861 — **Occupation** at Braidwood, New South Wales, Australia — Innkeeper — licensed publican of the Cottage of Content Inn, Wallace Street, Braidwood. He appears in the Braidwood district annual publicans' licensing lists for 1860 and 1861.
- FROM 1860 TO 1864 — **Residence** at Braidwood, New South Wales, Australia — Cottage of Content Inn, Wallace Street, Braidwood — the licensed house he kept. The family was living there when a daughter was born on 24 February 1862 and when Susannah died there on 15 May 1864.
- 1 OCT 1886 — **Died** at Balmain, New South Wales, Australia — At Balmain, at the residence of his son-in-law James Beadman, Birchgrove Road, from which the funeral moved
- 3 OCT 1886 — **Buried** at Enfield, New South Wales, Australia — St Thomas' Church of England Cemetery, Enfield — row 7, plots 17-19, the family monument he shares with his daughters Harriet Mary and Jane Sarah and their husband Wenzel Grenenger
