- 1814 — **Occupation** — Stable boy — his calling as recorded on the convict indent at the time of his transportation. He was convicted of stealing a bay mare, and in New South Wales became a farrier and finally a horse doctor, so the trade of his boyhood ran through his whole life.
- 1815 — **Description** — Described on arrival as aged 26, 5 feet 5½ inches tall, of fair ruddy complexion, with sandy hair and blue eyes.
- 27 JAN 1815 — **Immigrated** — Arrived at Sydney on the convict transport Marquis of Wellington, having sailed from London on 1 September 1814; transported for 14 years for horse-stealing, capitally convicted at the Isle of Ely assizes in February 1814 and reprieved
- FROM 1828 TO 1841 — **Occupation** — Farrier, and latterly horse doctor. He had been a stable hand in England before transportation; in New South Wales he is a farrier at Parramatta, South Creek, Windsor and Richmond in the 1830s and a horse farrier, then horse doctor, at Goulburn from about 1837.
- 1828 — **Census (1828)** at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia — Enumerated at Parramatta as head of household, entry B0277: free by servitude, aged 37 or 38, Protestant, holding 60 acres with one horse and six horned cattle. The household is his wife Jane, 27, come free on the Experiment, and their children Joseph, Lucy and Andrew.
- APR 1828 — **Certificate of Freedom** at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia — Granted his certificate of freedom, his fourteen-year sentence having expired. The Colonial Secretary published the week's grants in the Sydney Gazette of 23 April 1828, arranged by ship of arrival, with John Barber listed under Marquis of Wellington.
- 3 MAR 1841 — **Buried** at Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia — Buried in the parish of St Saviour, County of Argyle (Goulburn), two days after his death; the register describes him as a horse doctor.
