- FROM 1985 TO 2014 — **Occupation (Executive Chairman, Mineralogy Pty Ltd)** — Executive Chairman of Mineralogy Pty Ltd, a mining company he founded in the mid-1980s. In 1985 and 1986 Palmer founded three companies which undertook mining exploration in Western Australia, among them Mineralogy, which by 2006 held iron ore reserves in the Pilbara Ranges of remote northern Western Australia.
- 1997 — **Candidate, 1997 Australian Constitutional Convention election** at Queensland, Australia — Stood unsuccessfully as a republican candidate at the 1997 Australian Constitutional Convention election, heading the eleven-member "Elect the President" ticket. The group polled 1.7 per cent of first-preference votes in Queensland.
